After a son and daughter lost their father, they were overwhelmed by the sudden responsibility of inheriting his Garfield home. Although they wanted to keep it in the family and restore it to its former beauty, neither of them had the skills necessary to pull off such an honorable endeavor. They eventually decided to sell the home to a contractor with one request: “Please make our father’s house beautiful again.”
Since then, the contractor has honored that request to the best of his ability, and Ted and I have been lucky enough to assist in making some of the design decisions that have transformed the home into the beautiful structure it is today.
Awesome New Features and Attention to Detail
Over the last two years, the developer has renovated the house at 5434 Hillcrest Street in Garfield from top to bottom. In the renovations, he wanted the home to feel warm and inviting while still retaining as much of the original architectural detail as possible.
Because of this, every single room in the house has exposed brick, which was fully cleaned and sealed. One bedroom on the second floor even has a cool bookcase in the fireplace, which gives the room an awesome accent piece.
Ted and I had a blast partnering with him as he renovated the house. While the home has remained true to its architectural roots, it now has a modern boho vibe that makes the interior welcoming, energetic, and elegant. Some of the cool new features include:
Brand new hardwood floors (which spans the entire house except for the bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry room)
Brand new HVAC (including new duct work)
Rewiring
New plumbing
Interior and exterior work
New closets
Master suite with walk-in closet and a dreamy rain-head shower
But that’s not all. The home also features:
Two bathrooms
Three bedrooms
Lots of green space for playing and picnics
A beautiful wooden deck
Opportunities to expand the lot
Why the Location is Great
5434 Hillcrest Street is tucked away from major traffic, which gives it a quiet suburban feel. However, there’s plenty of awesome amenities closeby! On Hillcrest Street alone you’ll find two neighborhood parks: Kite Hill Park and Hillcrest Park—great options for staying active and letting the kids play.
Turn the corner and travel four blocks south on North Graham Street, and you’re right in the middle of Penn Avenue, where you’ll find:
Primanti Bros.
Spork
Honey Hair Co.
Multiple grocery options
Multiple churches
Of course, from Penn Avenue you can also easily access Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, Friendship, East Liberty, or Bakery Square.
Just as important is Garfield itself. All signs point to continued growth in Garfield, which means property values will mature over time. Now is the perfect time to slip into the neighborhood and become part of the vibrant community!
The price has already been reduced to $269,000, so now’s the perfect time to visit! If you’re interested, contact us at theblocks@theblocksintheburgh.com or call at 412.926.7976.
