Fall brings with it all kinds of excitement... and chaos! From the start of school, to raking leaves, to afternoon walks, sometimes it feels like there isn't enough pumpkin-coffee to give you the energy you need to fit it all in before the leaves are gone. Two of our favorite seasonal treats are picnic hikes and savory dinners to enjoy as a family. Between homework, housework, and real work, it can be tough to find time to squeeze in these favorites, but we're grateful for a local grocery store that makes it fun and easy.

Dylamato's Market

One step into Dylamato's, and you're sure to be greeted by Dianne's friendly and helpful "hello." In her store you'll find it only takes minutes to shop her curated collection of local produce, meats, and cheese, as well as organic grains, and pantry staples (like Cheerios and crackers). Dianne is incredibly thoughtful about how she sources all ingredients, so you don't waste time trying to figure out the right balance of price, nutrition, and sustainability-- she's done the hard work for you!

Here's one of our favorite weeknight recipes with ingredients from her market:

Savory beans & greens

15 - 20min

  • Sausage Beans & Greens, cut into 1/2 inch slices

  • 1lb Sweet Italian Sausage

  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 cups white beans, prepared (either soaked dried beans or a can of cannelini beans)

  • 1/2 cup liquid (white wine, broth, or water)

  • 3 cups chopped greens (kale, mustard, or other)

  • 1/4c grated parmesan

  • 2 T Olive oil

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Heat olive oil in pan on medium heat for 1 minute until pan is hot. Add diced onions and sauté 1-2 minutes. Add minced garlic and sausage. Cook until sausage is browned, 3-5 min. Add white beans to pan and stir until incorporated. Deglaze pan by adding liquid of choice, then scraping the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Turn heat to low and add chopped greens. Cook 4 - 6 minutes until wilted, stirring occasionally. Stir in grated parmesan and top with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve with rice or fresh bread.

And, when we're headed out for a picnic, it's easy to grab one of her fresh deli sandwiches with deli meat from local butchers, as well as a delicious baked treat that's homemade right in Hazelwood.

Dianne's shop is easy to get to along Second Ave, and you can park right in front of the store. She is open weekdays from 11-7, and Saturday from 9-5. Our favorite time to stop in is Saturday morning when you can find fresh donuts and coffee to start your weekend off right!
