It’s a sunny afternoon with surprise babysitting coverage (thanks Mom!), and Ted and I have a few minutes to spend around Squirrel Hill. We popped into our favorite deli, the classic Smallman Street Deli with fantastic sandwiches, pickles, and even a great selection of craft beers.

Smallman has daily specials, and even though Ted has a weakness for buying anything advertised on a sign, today we stick with their classic award winning Reuben. The magic is in the quality, with fresh bread, butcher-cut meats, and gourmet sauces.

The deli serves generous portions, so we were happy to split the sandwich, although at their great prices it’s easy to justify buying a whole and saving some for later (if you have the self-control!). Smallman also serves their goods to go— you can grab sandwiches, deli meat, or a six-pack for lunch if you’re passing through the area, or an easy dinner as an upgrade from pizza or fast food. They even serve hearty breakfasts, with a full array of eggs, breakfast sandwiches, and even "Matzah Brie". Regardless of the time or reason, this is a Pittsburgh staple that you can’t miss!

Cheers,
