With such a plethora of options to eat at in Squirrel Hill, it can be daunting to find the right place to eat. Often I find myself just walking down Murray or Forbes without knowing at all where I am going to end up; However, that is never the case when I am looking for a good burger. Murray Avenue Grill makes all kinds of wonderful elevated bar foods and while it appears small on the outside it holds plenty of space and provides a quieter atmosphere than most other bars in the area. Really this is more of an American fare restaurant than bar, but that doesn't hold them back from making quality mixed drinks and offering a good selection of craft and domestic beers. My personal favorite things to eat are the Cannonsburg burger (a spicy buffalo wing style burger) or the Saxonsburg burger (with fried pickles and chipotle aioli), the Pittsburgh salad with Cajun style chicken, and the house made crab cakes.
The interior is quaint and timeless. Always clean and the staff always well mannered. For me, it is a place of quiet refuge, but that doesn't stop the regulars from talking your ear off if you sit down at the bar by yourself. In fact this past time, as I enjoyed a beer post work hours I was greeted by stories of a traveling orchestral musician.
All in all, come here for the burgers, stay for the stories and enjoy the memories.
