Our Top 10 Outdoor Bars in Pittsburgh

Julie and Ted at an Outdoor Bar in Pittsburgh

We all appreciate a good meal. And though I wouldn’t exactly say Ted and I are “foodies,” we’ve certainly visited many of Pittsburgh’s outstanding bars and restaurants since we moved back here nearly a decade ago.

One thing we’ve come to love is the city’s vast selection when it comes to bars. From high-quality microbreweries to sophisticated martini bars, Pittsburgh really seems to have it all. And now that we’re in the last few weeks of the summer, we’re really trying to soak up every bit of sunshine Pittsburgh has to offer.

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up 10 of our favorite outdoor bars in Pittsburgh. After all, what’s better than enjoying your favorite cold drink on a sunny day or end-of-summer evening?

Pittsburgh’s 10 Best Outdoor Bars

Here’s a quick rundown of some of our favorite outdoor patio bars in Pittsburgh—in no particular order:

1. East End Brewing Company (Larimer)

A cozy spot in Larimer, East End Brewing Company provides a spacious outdoor seating area, and they also offer tours, a tasting room, and beers by the growler or keg! This is an excellent spot to stock up on really high-quality local beer.

Address: 147 Julius Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15206

2. Shiloh Gastro (Mount Washington)

Drinks and a view? Almost! The Shiloh Gastro is located a block from Mount Washington’s Monongahela Incline one of Pittsburgh’s best overlooks, which means you can get a great view of the city as soon as you step off of the Shiloh Gastro’s front porch.

The Shiloh Gastro offers a relaxed pub atmosphere, and plenty of table umbrellas guarantee good protection from both the sun and rain!

Address: 123 Shiloh Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15211

3. Hard Rock Cafe (Station Square)

If the Shiloh Gastro sits near the top of the Monongahela Incline, Pittsburgh’s Hard Rock Cafe is conveniently located near the bottom of the Mon incline inside Station Square. Although their patio isn’t adorned with awesome rock memorabilia like the restaurant’s interior, they do offer great views of the beautiful Station Square fountain, the impressive passing freight trains, the gentle Monongahela River, and Downtown Pittsburgh.

If you love plenty to look at while you’re outside, this is a great outdoor bar in Pittsburgh!

Address: 230 West Station Square Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

4. OTB at the North Park Boathouse (North Park)

OTB at the North Park Boathouse may sit nearly 15 miles outside of Downtown Pittsburgh, but it offers stunning views you won’t find anywhere else! Nestled alongside North Park Lake, OTB gives you a clear view of the geese, ducks, and kayakers enjoying the water. This is a wonderful bar to hit after spending the day on the trails!

Address: 10301 Pearce Mill Road, Allison Park, PA 15101

Phone: 724-940-5000

We stopped at OTB at the North Park Boathouse on a rainy day in June, and it was a beautiful, delightful dinner.

5. Harris Grill (Downtown)

One of Downtown Pittsburgh’s best gems is the Harris Grill. The careful design of their upstairs patio offers good protection from the sun, and being only a few stories above the city means you can still feel the energy of Pittsburgh below you. And since it’s located on Fourth Avenue, you can quickly reach Market Square and PPG Plaza before you leave the city.

Address: 245 Fourth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Phone: 412-288-5273

6. Hitchhiker Brewing Co. (Sharpsburg)

One of Pittsburgh’s favorite breweries, Hitchhiker Brewing Co. also has a quiet little outdoor section on a side street in Sharpsburg. This is always a hip and fun place to stop by, and you can even try your hand at one of the old pinball machines!

Address: 1500 Sout Canal Street #2541, Pittsburgh, PA 15215

Phone: 412-343-1950

7. Hidden Harbor (Squirrel Hill)

A Polynesian-inspired tiki bar, this adorable restaurant offers an even cuter outdoor seating area—and no, we’re not talking about the outdoor seating they sometimes pop up out front! Hidden Harbor has a recently-built backdoor area filled with plant life and Edison bulbs, offering great ambiance for the end of the summer!

Address: 1708 Shady Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217

8. The Abbey on Butler (Lawrenceville)

Although The Abbey on Butler is located on a busy strip of Lawrenceville’s cut of Butler Street, stepping into the restaurant’s outdoor is a little like stepping into another world. Packed with manicured plants and an impressive fountain, The Abbey on Butler gives you an opportunity to catch your breath and enjoy some time away. This is one Pittsburgh outdoor bar you don’t want to miss!

9. Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh (South Side)

Located between Pittsburgh’s historic Hot Metal Bridge and the South Shore Riverfront Park, the Hofbräuhaus offers visitors great drinks and a great view. Another Pittsburgh favorite, this is a great destination if you’re looking for outdoor bars in Pittsburgh.

10. Double Wide Grill (South Side)

Another South Side favorite, Double Wide Grill is always a fun place to visit on sunny days, thanks in part to its charming, rustic decor and inviting atmosphere. Plus, a dedication to plant life on their patio offers some additional privacy from the rush of the nearby South Side sidewalks and streets.
