We love a great local brewery! In fact, Ted and I have been known for gifting some of our favorite Pittsburgh brews to our closest friends and vendors around the holidays.
We recently reviewed our favorite outdoor bars in Pittsburgh, but the temperatures are beginning to creep downward, just like they do near the end of every October in our town.
And with the temperatures dropping, sipping our favorite craft beers outdoors when we’re all dressed up for date night starts to seem more and more unreasonable.
So we’re headed back indoors to our top Pittsburgh breweries across a variety of neighborhoods!
Our Favorite Pittsburgh Breweries
Here are some of our favorite places to enjoy fresh, local beers in Pittsburgh:
East End Brewing Company - Larimer
East End Brewing Company is a cozy spot located in Larimer. In addition to tastings, growlers to go, and brewery tours, you’ll also find a tasty menu of excellent pub favorites. We like East End Brewing Company so much, we’ve even held some of our happy hours there!
Address: 147 Julius Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15206
Phone: 412-537-2337
Hitchhiker Brewing Co. - Sharpsburg & Mount Lebanon
Hitchhiker Brewing Co. is frequently listed among the best breweries in Pittsburgh, and we always love the original artwork on their cans!
Luckily for all of us, the brewery puts just as much effort into their individual beers as they do their designs, so you can’t go wrong picking up a Hitchhiker!
Hitchhiker Brewing Co. is unique on this list as they’re the only one with two locations in the Pittsburgh region. One is located in Sharpsburg, and the other is in Mount Lebanon. No matter where you live in our region, you likely have relatively quick access to at least one Hitchhiker!
Sharpsburg Address: 1500 Sout Canal Street #2541, Pittsburgh, PA 15215
Phone: 412-343-1950
Mount Lebanon Address: 190 Castle Shannon Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15228
Phone: 412-343-1950
Church Brew Works - Lawrenceville
There’s so much to love about Church Brew Works! Tucked inside a former Roman Catholic church that was originally built in 1902, the Church Brew Works now pays homage to the building’s former purpose while offering a great selection of award-winning beers—and excellent food as well! Fun fact: The building is now on the Pittsburgh History and Landmark Foundation’s List of History Landmarks.
Address: 3525 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15201
Phone: 412-688-8200
Grist House Craft Brewery - Milvalle
Located just off of Milvalle’s busy Grant Avenue, Grist House does exactly what their slogan says: They grind out great beers! Like Hitchhiker Brewing, Gristhouse also puts a ton of thought into can designs, as they’re frequently fun and colorful!
As the picture suggests, Ted and I have been known to duck into Grist House for a quick drink while we plan for the future of our business. This is one Pittsburgh craft brewery that’s definitely worth visiting.
Address: 10 Sherman Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15209
Southern Tier Brewing Company - North Shore
Conveniently located within walking distance of Heinz Field, PNC Park, and Stage AE, Southern Tier has become a popular destination for folks interested in enjoying a few high-quality beers and snacks before heading into their favorite venue.
Plus, the Pittsburgh brewery’s proximity to North Shore Riverfront Park means you can take in some great views of Downtown and the three rivers before leaving the neighborhood!
Address: 316 North Shore Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15212
Phone: 412-301-2337
Two Frays Brewery - Garfield
Located right on the edge of Garfield and Bloomfield along Penn Avenue, Two Frays Brewery has us especially excited because it’s the newest Pittsburgh craft brewery on this list! Established in 2020, Two Frays Brewery offers a variety of craft IPAs, lagers, ales, pilsners—and everything in between! Plus, they have free sparkling water on tap. That’s definitely a welcome diversion from your typical brewery tap water!
Address: 3525 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15201
