Pittsburgh is full of great summer spots!

Pittsburgh is full of great summer spots!

Now that summer is in full swing, many (our household included!) are itching to get out of the house for some fun. In a big city like Pittsburgh, you’ll find plenty of spots for the entire family.

Here are some of our favorite ways to spend the summer in Pittsburgh:

Visit the Amusement Parks

For a day of fun in the sun, pack the kids in the car and head southwest of the city. Travel far enough, and you’ll eventually reach each of these popular Pittsburgh summer destinations:

And for fun on a smaller scale, consider trying:

Relax at Wineries

Like wine? Grab a babysitter for the kids and hit the local Pittsburgh wineries! Or, if you prefer sipping your wine overlooking the countryside, head to one the region’s many popular wineries, where you can discover new wines with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair.

Pick Some Fruit

Enjoy the fresh air and a little bit of exercise by heading to a you-pick farm. Hand-pick and hand-select your favorite fruits and vegetables to ensure you get the freshest produce possible. It’s a great first-stop in family dinner night!

Try the Farmers Markets

If you can’t escape to the countryside for the freshest produce possible, this is the next best thing. Pittsburgh features numerous farmers markets, and each one offers its own special perks and charms. Make sure you try them all over the summer!

Watch Movies in the Park

A common summer thrill you’ll find all over Pittsburgh, many neighborhoods organize their own Movies-in-the-Park night. Grab your friends and a blanket, then check with your local neighborhood authority to see what’s playing near you.

Discover New Music

Is it really summer if you don’t spend one night swaying to music under the starlit sky? You have plenty of opportunities to discover new music in Pittsburgh, especially with the annual Deutschtown Music Festival. Enjoy more than 200 bands across 30 venues, as well as plenty of beer and food. It’s a great way to find new bands to sing along to when you head out of town for a summer road trip.

Don’t forget to check the musical lineup at popular venues like Heinz Hall, Stage AE, and Mr. Smalls Theater. You never know who’s coming to town!

Leave Town, Go Camping

The Pittsburgh region is packed with awesome camping locations! A short drive from numerous state parks (and only a few hours away from the national forests in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, and even Kentucky!), you’re bound to find a secluded spot that’s perfect for your entire family.
