A Brief History of Hampton Township

The first settlers made their homes in present-day Hampton Township around the time of the Revolutionary War—more than 200 years ago! At the time, the area was popular among hunters and fur trappers. It wasn’t until the late 19th and 20th centuries that Pittsburghers began moving there in large numbers.

Public Transportation In Hampton Township

Because Hampton Township is so far north of Downtown Pittsburgh, it has a few public transportation options:

Pittsburgh Regional Transit - 2: This bus comes through the southern end of Hampton Township, before traveling west toward the Ross Park Mall.

Access to Major Roadways in Hampton Township

Route 8 - Route 8 runs north and south through the middle of Hampton Township, making it a convenient throughway. 

Route 76 - The PA Turnpike runs through the northeast corner of Hampton Township. To reach it, travel north along Route 8 toward the northern edge of Hampton Township.
